Activist Proud That Trump’s Genocide of Palestine Brings Attention to Palestine
Ann Arbor, MI – As Trump and Netanyahu announced plans to completely level Gaza, activists around the country celebrated the attention it would bring to this region. No activist was more elated than uncommitted cofounder Layla Elabed.
“For months, since electing Donald Trump, Gaza was silently starving with very little media attention,” said Layla. “But now, with their total annihilation, the world will be forced to focus on them once more.”
The announcement greenlights a full-on genocide of Gaza, something Benjamin Netanyahu was unable to do during the Biden presidency. Layla has felt unaffected by the pain this may bring on. Instead, she reflects on the bigger picture this genocide will bring to her movement, making Gaza newsworthy once more.
“Awareness of the problem has become rather difficult under the Trump presidency,” claimed Layla. “The media has been focused on stories like the breakdown of government services, collapse of global alliances, and tariffs destroying our stock market. Every now and then we get a bright spot, like the ICE kidnapping of Rumeysa Ozturk, which sheds light on the horrors of Palestinian Americans. Otherwise, the news media appears to have completely moved on, but that may change with this genocide.”
Despite the demoralization of the news media during Trump, few activists have expressed regret for their actions. Most remain prideful that their activism helped end the Biden administration, whose competency and lack of corruption allowed for a focus on issues like the treatment of Muslims in America. We spoke with activist Tyler Reed who had some concerns after a Palestinian friend told him of the Muslim ban under President Trump’s first term.
“Yafa Shaheen seemed very concerned that life would not be good for Muslims under Trump” Tyler claimed. “It honestly made me wonder if I was really on the right side. Then I imagined what it would be like if Palestinians were alive today to see Joe Biden take credit for allowing continued aide into Gaza! Thankfully, I can say the people of Gaza will be free of such horrors shortly.”
